Let The World Die: At the road of ruin

Metal has fused with almost any kind of music that there is and while some of these fusions have given birth to more or less well accepted sub-genres — take symphonic or viking metal for instance, others are so new, so radical or so terribly performed that will remain obscure for the time given. With that in mind, I give you Let The World Die, an American outfit from Arizona that blends punk, black metal and… Ska.

A recent discovery of mine, black metal featuring ska elements — or full songs for that matter — may sound nonsense at first, but it’s actually a great idea. Take “At the road of ruin” for example: It ranges from raw black metal songs to fully ska oriented with a “delicate” touch of metal harshness. Now, while such a happy and dance-provoking music like ska is on the paper incompatible with unholiest of metal styles, it actually enriches it. How? Adding some contrast, naturally. By providing some rest to the listener in between the harsher songs — which has in fact some merit per se, or adding some special kind of groove within a proper black metal song, these people make the black even blacker, if you know what I mean. Now, it’s true these people can use some aging, as their only record definitely needs some adjustments.

Finally, ska is a most non-conformist kind of music which has been embraced by many extreme political and social movements is no coincidence… You guessed correctly, it’s anarchist green music what we’re dealing with here. Fine to me!

Cheers,

6,5/10: Yo, keep the good work.
